Kahe Wale - September 2021

OVB Updates

Public Relations & Communications

Governor David Ige has urged visitors and residents to suspend all non-essential travel until the end of October due to the current COVID-19 surge which is severely challenging our state’s hospital capacity. As such, OVB and HVCB has paused on actively promoting travel to Oahu. Media visits have been suspended through October but we remain in contact with journalists on postponing their trip to later in the year or early 2022, which we believe will result in a more positive travel experience overall. We have also held off on sending out the OVB quarterly media enewsletter originally scheduled for distribution on September 1. Until such time, if you have any news or updates to share with media, please send to Joyce Bernardo (joyce@visit-oahu.com).

Travel Trade & Sales

Trade Events & Programs

HVCB is monitoring the Delta variant closely. Travel Weekly cancelled their Leadership Forum and Signature cancelled their Owners' Meeting in Maui. Currently in-person event participation will be monitored on a week-by-week basis for all upcoming partner events currently scheduled.

Travel Advisor Education – Webinars

Travel Advisor education has been the cornerstone of OVB’s sales efforts. The importance of educating agents on the destination and teaching them how best to position Oahu authentically and respectfully has been a priority at OVB.

  • OVB trained 11 travel advisors on August 19 with an Outdoor Adventure / Conscious Traveler / Malama Oahu webinar with Pleasant Holidays.
  • OVB trained 80 agents with a Mahalo Monday (Mailpound) update webinar on August 9.
